NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE ?Revelations that MOD sifted through bins at inquest on military reservists who died on training exercise? When the British Army were touting for reservists on the Isle of Man earlier this year in an interview with Manx Radios Head of News Marian Kenny (which was broadcast several times) reference was made by the Officer being interviewed to the ?fun? time that could be had in the military reserves. The Celtic League condemned the British Army/MOD initiative in Mann and also the trivialisation by the MOD of what people were being asked to involve themselves in. Our concerns were confirmed by an inquest currently underway in the United Kingdom: this shows it certainly was not ?fun? for the three reservists undertaking an SAS assessment course in the Brecon Beacons area of Wales who died alone during one of the hottest days of the year in July 2013. The inquest underway for some weeks into the deaths has revealed a catalogue of blunders by the military. Although it was realised the weather conditions at the time could have caused difficulties for the three men it was revealed early in the inquest that the course was not cancelled because to do so would have caused ?too much paper work?. Also it has been found that although the men were carrying GPS trackers which should have revealed if they were in difficulty (i.e. had stopped for to long) there was a delay in finding them to the extent that one man had developed rigor mortis when rescuers eventually found his body. However, in the most disgraceful and shameful episode so far in the course of the inquest it has been revealed that the MOD had ?been going through confidential waste bins? in the Court building where the inquest is being held. QC acting for the MoD accepted his clients had sifted through waste bins and agreed it was unacceptable. It is becoming clear that this exercise was not ?fun? for these three unfortunate military reservists and the insensitivity shown since by the MOD to the families is incomprehensible.
