The General Secretary of the Celtic League is pressing the 'follow-up committee' established following the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights (UDLR) to ascertain what progress is being made to pursue the objectives enshrined in the Declaration.

The Celtic League were active participants during the drafting and adoption of the UDLR.

The text of the query from General Secretary, Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, is set out below

"Bureau of the Follow-up Committee c/ Rocafort, 242 bis, 2n 08029 Barcelona e-Mail: dudl [at] ...

Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights (UDLR)

It is now over ten years since the UDLR was agreed to, in Barcelona in 1996. The Celtic League were one of the NGO's that signed the Declaration and are proud that we were there representing the linguistic interests of the Celtic nations and were signatories.

We would therefore like to know what progress has been made by the Follow Committe with regard to the Declaration? Related to this specifically, the Celtic League would like to know some answers to the following questions:

What is the likelyhood, that the Declaration will be adopted as a Convention of the United Nations?

Is it still possible to give support to the Declaration, personally or as an entity?

Are you able to provide the League with an up to date list of members of the Follow up Committee's Scientific Council and is it possible for the League to be represented on this Council?

Are you planning any activity relating to the UDLR for the UN International Year of Languages in 2008, and if so what will it be and is it possible for the League play a part?

At our last AGM in September 2007 in Caerdydd/Cardiff, Cymru/Wales, the Celtic League passed the following resolution:

In particular, seeks to raise the profile, position and use of the different Celtic languages in the Celtic countries and internationally, during the UN International Year of Languages 2008.

Relating to this resolution we would like to forward the campaign for the UDLR and would therefore like to know how we can collaborate with you to do this.

We would appreciate any answers you are able to provide and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely

Rhisiart Tal-e-bot"
