News from Celtic League The General Secretary of the Celtic League has written to the Minister of the Reform of the State and of Decentralisation ahead of a key debate about the territorial reform of Breizh (Brittany) over the next few days. The debate will begin tomorrow in the French Parliament (l?Assemblée Nationale) and is an opportunity for Députés (MP?s) to discuss Breton territorial reform with the possibility of pushing for Breton reunification. Supporters of Breton reunification are asked to copy all or any part of the letter below to the Minister of the Reform of the State and of Decentralisation or other Ministers via their Facebook and/or Twitter accounts and the Députés of l?Assemblée Nationale (addresses can be found at the link below). It is recommended that the Députés from Breizh are also written to as a matter of priority and urgency (see link #2). Au nom de la Ligue Celtique, je vous demande avec force en tant que Député de l?Assemblée Nationale de débattre et voter en faveur de la seule option possible et que nos membres et sympathisants estiment la plus juste à savoir la Réunification de la Bretagne. La Réunification de la Bretagne est un appel lancé et soutenu par les Peuples Celtes depuis des générations et est encore plus que jamais d?actualité. La Bretagne est une Nation Historique et le soutient pour la réunification de son territoire par les Bretons, la Région Bretagne, les Cinq Départements Bretons, les Institutions, les Associations, les Organisations, les Collectifs, les Réseaux Sociaux, les Médias et Blogs, les Professionnels, les Syndicats, les Comités, vos/nos Amis, Collègues et Familles à l?intérieur du Territoire Français s?est largement répandu. Par ailleurs, l?intégrité historique du Territoire Breton continue à être reconnu sur la scène internationale en dépit des tentatives successives par les Gouvernements Français depuis 1943 d?affaiblir la Bretagne Historique par son découpage. Le Monde Celtique continue de reconnaitre la Bretagne Historique comme une nation distincte et qu?un jour une sage décision parlementaire française sera prise réalisant que la Bretagne est plus forte culturellement, économiquement, et politiquement si ses territoires sont réunis. De plus, les meilleures pratiques établies par les États Membres dans la gestion des États montrent que les frontières des Nations sans état et les minorités nationales devraient rester telles quelles pour des raisons historiques and culturelles. Également, les meilleures pratiques montrent en la matière que si l?intégrité historique dun territoire est maintenu, et en particulier si un peuple gère en toute autonomie ses propres affaires dans ce territoire, ils sont par conséquent devenus les régions les plus prospèrent d?Europe. Une Bretagne réunifiée, représentant 4,5 millions d?habitants augmenterait le potentiel économique, stimulerait la marque Produit en Bretagne and améliorerait son atout compétitif parmi les Nations et Régions Européennes. Un tel développement serait bénéfique pour l?économie française en difficulté, mais la situation territoriale actuelle de la Bretagne et les propositions de projets français pour le découpage futur ignore cette possibilité. La création d?une nouvelle nouvelle frontière pour la Bretagne, incluant le maintient des limites françaises existantes, a et continuera à être un développement néfaste sauf si la Réunification Territoriale est construite à partir d?un but réaliste. Une Bretagne Réunifiée n?est pas un plaidoyer la communauté Celtique internationale, c?est une attente dans l?intérêt de la démocratie et des bonnes pratiques. Dear Minister Marylise Lebranchu Territorial Reform and the Reunification of Historic Brittany On the 18th, 19th and 20th November the French Assembly will debate and vote on the issue of territorial reform in France, which includes the territorial reform of Brittany. On behalf of the Celtic League I would like to urge you, as a Deputy of the French Assembly, to vote for the only valid option that our members and supporters consider worthy of considering - the reunification of Brittany. The reunification of Brittany has been a call that has been supported by the Celtic peoples for generations and it is still as valid today as it ever was. Brittany is an historic nation and support for the reunification of its territory by the Breton people and institutions, within the French state, is widespread. Moreover the historic integrity of the Breton territory continues to be recognised internationally, in spite of successive attempts by French governments since 1943 to weaken historic Brittany through partition. The Celtic world continues to recognise historic Brittany as a distinct nation and that one day an enlightened French parliamentary decision will be made realising that Brittany is stronger - culturally, economically and politically - if its territories are united. In addition EU best practice in the territorial management of States shows that the borders of stateless nations and national minorities should remain untouched for historic and cultural reasons. Best practice shows in these matters that if historic integrity of a territory is maintained, especially if a people are self governing in its own affairs within that territory, then they have become some of the more prosperous areas in Europe. A reunified Brittany, representing 4.5 million people with its three additional cities and skills base, would increase economic potential, boost the ?Made in Brittany? brand and improve its competitive edge among the EU?s nations and regions.Such a development would be beneficial to the struggling French economy, but yet the current territorial situation of Brittany and some of the proposed French plans for further partition ignore this possibility. The creation of a new artificial boundary for Brittany, including the maintenance of the existing French boundaries, has and will continue to be a disastrous construct unless territorial reunification is made a realistic goal. A reunited Brittany is not a plea by the Celtic international community, it?s an expectation in the interest of democracy and good practice.
