The Celtic League have asked the Isle of Man governments Minister of Home Affairs to end the practice of housing adult offenders in a wing designated for young offenders.

Earlier this week the League alerted European Prisons 'watchdog' the CPT to the unsatisfactory situation at the Isle of Man prison where 11 adults were sharing a wing of the prison designated for young offenders.(Text of letter to DHA Minister below):

Dear Minister,

Ref: Isle of Man Prison - housing of Adults with Young Offenders

I understand that a considerable number of adult offenders are being housed in the young offenders section of the prison.

Your Department must be aware that this practice is a clear breach of European Prison Rules ('The CPT Standards') and also the United Nations standards set under the 'Beijing Rules'.

We urge your Department take immediate action to rectify this situation."
