The Celtic League has again responded to a request for support from language activists in Brittany.
Repeatedly over the past twenty years the League has pressed the French government over the lack of resources for the Breton language.
In the latest correspondence, Secretary General Rhisiart Tal-e-bot, the Celtic League have expressed concern about the provision of Breton/French bilingual classes in the departments of Morbihan and Côtes d'Armor.
Correspondence has been forwarded to the French Embassies in Dublin and London and to the Minister of Education in Paris. Copies below (French/English).
ENGLISH VERSION
"Dear
Provision of Breton Bilingual Teachers
I am writing to express our concern that children in Brittany are once again waiting for Breton teachers, despite the National Education directive "la circulaire 2001- 167" in regard to the creation of Breton/French bilingual classes.
The children who are now without bilingual teachers in the departments of Morbihan and Côtes d'Armor are unfairly being deprived of full participation in their education. The commitment made by the Breton Regional Council in a ruling in December 2004 to double bilingual classes by 2010, appears to run contrary to the situation as it stands at present.
We would therefore like to know why there has been a hold up in the allocation of bilingual teachers in the aforementioned departments.

M. le Ministre,
Objet : Création de postes d'enseignants bilingues breton-français. Je vous écris pour vous faire part de notre inquiétude au fois encore et en dépit de la circulaire 2001-167 de l'Education Nationale, attendent qu'un enseignant bilingue soit nommé dans leur école pour pouvoir bénéficier d'un enseignement en breton et en français. Ces enfants (dans les Côtes d'Armor et le Morbihan) qui n'ont pour le moment pas d'enseignant bilingue breton/français se voient donc injustement privés d'une partie de leur cursus scolaire. Cette situation est pour le moins paradoxale compte tenu du fait que le Conseil Régional de Bretagne a montré son engagement dans ce domaine, en votant à l'unanimité un plan pour la sauvegarde de la langue bretonne en décembre 2004. En effet, ce plan prévoit un doublement des effectifs des classes bilingues d'ici à 2010. sujet de certains enfants en Bretagne qui, une Nous aimerions donc savoir pourquoi les parents des enfants concernés se sont vus refuser la création de poste d'enseignant bilingue breton/français dans leur école.
