The Languages Pact: or how to reconcile French people with their regional languages.

Unity in diversity! Europe's motto can also be French people's motto.

Indivisible, secular, democratic and social, France is a republic which ensures equality before the law of all its citizens without any distinction of origin, race or religion. It respects all beliefs says article 1 of the French Constitution.

However, article 2 of our Constitution already contradicts itself by reading that the Republic's language is French. It thereby denies the right to citizens to express themselves in Breton, Basque, Occitan, Catalan, Alsatian, and Corsican … while people have been speaking these languages on the French territory for centuries.

Where is the equality before the law to all citizens without any distinction of origin or race that was mentioned in article 1? What happened to the respect of all beliefs?

It is high time to make French people aware of the existence of their regional languages. All the more so, because French, our common language, could benefit from the recognition, protection and promotion of France's regional languages.

Who will sign the Languages Pact three weeks from the presidential elections?

That is why the ouiaubreton.com website will regularly feature information or campaigns to help its members get their rights recognised. See website
